Going Banana

i was on the flight to Kota Bharu last Saturday to attend a workshop in Gua Musang when i realized that i have no knowledge in differentiating different type of bananas in Malaysia - apart from pisang emas, tanduk & raja udang. It strucked when i turn to a page in the Going Places February 2010 issue (MAS in-flight magazine) explaining about bananas.

i share some of the info...

Malaysia is blessed with around 15 different type of bananas, not including wild jungle species, that come in all soirt of sizes and tastes. Refer to the photos above (from left to right):

1. Emas - stubby and fingerlike, sweet and fragrant

2. Rastali - Distinguishable by black dots, slightly sour but particularly fragrant and delicious

3. Berangan - Medium-sized and sweet, the most commonly available in Malaysia

4. Nipah - Unique angular lines on its skin, usually used to make fritters

5. Red Jungle (raja udang) - A rare find though in fairness its red skin is far more exotic than the taste

6. Pisang Nangka - Stays green even when ripe and with sweet, firm flesh

7. Tanduk - Freakishly long, a plantain with soft, creamy flesh

I'm just wondering which type is exported oversea! Surely not emas!

Kuala Gandah

This week has been quite a 'talkative' week for me for I have to give talk to different people with different subject at different places. From one place leading to the another starting with Bangi, then off to Shah Alam the following day, then Kepong and once I completed the talk in Kepong, boss asked me to investigate an accident in Temerloh - pergi sehelai sepinggang. Well I thought it would last for a few hours but it went on and on up to almost midnight.

WHY? Becoz the accident's location was in Kuala Gandah, Lancang (Elephant Sancturay) which is about one hour drive from Temerloh, hence 2 hours to & fro. Actually I have been here before with the kids watching the elephants. Quite a nice place but a bit remote though! Should you plan to visit, better come at noon as you can watch the elephants take their bath in the river & if you are lucky you can even ride on one. Tips: Pls bring along some foods + drinks becos the nearby shops or restaurant are run by the orang asli.

Got home at 2 am!

Project in Tanggul Aur

I was invited to give a safety talk to school teacher in Universiti Tun Hussin Onn, Batu Pahat on Saturday & as usual I dropped by at Kampung and guess what! New project utk tambak belakang rumah was underway coordinated by mak. Probably for the grandchildren play area.

Mithali

Out of the blue, Yusuf was awarded Murid Mithali lelaki darjah 1 Benar after 2 weeks of schooling - well it was more like kindergarten refresher week for Yusuf did whine about no new things learned during those week. He brought home a set of stationeries & a book. Due to this, he has been appointed as Ketua Darjah 1 Benar ! (biar betul! or shall we say biar benar!). Nontheless, congrats to Yusuf.

Crystal Clear...10-01-10

Pemandangan dari Tkgt 15, Hotel Felda Residence, Kuala Trengganu - boleh nampak Masjid Kristal walaupun tak berapa clear.

Survived for 1st 5 days!

4-8 Januari 2010 merupakan 5 hari pertama Yusuf di SRAI. I would say, he passed the 5 days in SRAI with flying colours. Why? 1.easy to wake in the morning 2.didn't loose his shoes 3. didn't pee in his pant 4.can keep up with lessons in class and most importantly 5.didn' cry!

The ratio between boys and girls in Yusuf's class is 2:1.
